Three times last Saturday I walked into my craft room and walked back out. Despite my intellectual knowledge of how to rectify such a mess, every time I looked around the part of my brain that registers overwhelm started screaming. (This is a loud, obnoxious, and active part of my brain.) Knowing that not much was going to get done in that state, I went to the library for some support. Here are some of the books* that are helping me either de-clutter or get motivated to de-clutter:
- Clutter’s Last Stand by Don Aslett – Don Aslett verbally kicks your butt… in a nice way
- Lose 200 lbs. this Weekend also by Don Aslett – He’s just so no-nonsense, and gets me all excited about the idea
- Real Simple Solutions by Real Simple Magazine- Full of great ideas for organizing, and full of photographs that make me yearn for that kind of organization
- Does This Clutter Make my Butt Look Fat by Peter Walsh – Draws some interesting parallels between the different kinds of excess in out lives
- Throw Out Fifty Things: Clear the Clutter, Find Your Life by Gail Blanke – I’m waiting for a copy of this one, but it was recommended by Lain at 30-Minute Martha and after reading her post I decided that I got the general idea. I went into the craft room with a garbage bag in one hand and a bag for the thrift store in the other, and started counting. A lot of what I picked up ended up being pieces of paper, but I knew that I had just eliminated 50 things, and 50 is a lot of things to get rid of in 15 minutes. This made me feel happy.
*All of these books are available in the FasterCraft Amazon store, if you want to pick any of them up.
