Embroidery Week… or month… or Valentine’s

I’ve had a string of silly little realizations in the past 24 hours. One was that it’s actually National Embroidery month, so I’m a little late to the game. Another is that it’s the week before Valentine’s Day. And maybe that means that some of you would like to make romance-based crafts. Or candy-based crafts, depending on what it is that gets you through Valentine’s Day. We’ll get back to the embroidering soon, I promise. So to that end, I’ve got a collection of projects today, and a product review tomorrow.

First we have this scarf from the Crafts Dept at Martha Stewart. The scarf itself is a piece of felted wool as well. Shrunken sweaters, pieces of wool blankets, larger wool scarves shrunk, there are a few options. Sometimes you want precision felting, but in cases like this I think it’s often easiest to just throw the wool thing you want felted in the washing machine on hot. If it’s light colored enough you can even throw it in with your whites, but you may want to put it in a lingerie bag or pillow case to avoid having little bits of wool all over your lacy unmentionables.

Mustard Seeds made this gorgeous garland using old Valentines, bias tape, and a sewing machine.

The Long Thread has a roundup of printable Valentines. 30, to be precise. And they are CUTE.
