Boards: The French memo board

And now the week of boards brings us to the French Memo Boards. A French Memo Board is generally a padded board covered by a set of criss crossing ribbons. The idea is that instead of pinning things to the board, you slip them under the ribbons. The advantages are twofold, in my book. You don’t need to put holes in the things you want to put on the board, and you don’t have to hunt down a thumbtack if you need to put something up. Here’s an example (photo from Sacramento Bee):

In the past when I’d seen projects that made these, for the base they used either foam board or a pre-made bulletin board, but in this case they made the very clever decision to use a stretched canvas from the craft store.
