It’s boards week here at FasterCraft! My main problem this week (ahem, quiet from the peanut gallery) is a problem of nomenclature. I can’t think of a good name for the group of bulletin boards, white boards, memo boards, and the like that I am featuring this week. While attending my genius knitting group, my friend Kara showed me her craft room, and the inspiration boards she’d made. Not only did I know right away that I needed to feature this idea, it got me thinking about all of the other surfaces we create around the house to temporarily affix our ideas to.
So, without further ado, day one’s boards are Kara’s. Kara has a blog called Knitting Lemonade, and her boards can be seen on this post. (I’ve known the name of her blog for months, but I keep forgetting to ask her if knitting is, in this case, a verb or an adjective.)
If you’re a reader of the Purl Bee, you probably remember the Swatch Portraits. Kara took this idea further and filled in the back of her embroidery hoops with foam board, making them into bulletin boards. It’s a fun way to show off those fat quarters, leftover fabric scraps, and maybe even your collection of upholstery samples (ahem, Sister Diane.) I love the idea for that reason, but I also love it because it takes what was pure decoration and allows it to remain decorative and individual, but also practical. Practical is particularly nice when you live with someone who says things like “what are these things supposed to do again?” when faced with a stack of swatch portraits. (Love you honey!)
Enough talk, check out Kara’s boards:
